CHARACTER LETTERS-Write a rough draft of each of these letters to bring to class on Thursday 5-14-09. We will get the computers for half of the class to type them out. Each letter should be at least one page when typed. Include a few paragraphs and write about relevant parts in the story analyzing and indicating your understanding of the story.
1-Character to Character- Write to one of the characters in the story as if you are another character in the story about something that happens in the story.
2-Yourself to a Character- As yourself, write to one of the characters in the story to whom you can relate in some way.

Literary Analysis-Answer the following questions in short answer essay format. I would prefer that the responses are typed in MLA format. These ideas will later be developed into an essay. Questions one and two are due on Tuesday, March 3. The other two are due on Thursday 3/5/09.
1. What is the larger moral issue at stake in the dispute between Creon and Antigone? Who do you think is right?
2. Compare the reactions of Antigone and Ismene to Creon's edict and to his condeming Antigone to her death.
3. What personal characteristics influence Antigone to defy Creon and bury her brother? Is she an idealist or does she defy the king out of obstinate pride? Use quotes to support your claims.
4. What commentary is Sophocles making on the nature of absolute power in Antigone?
